PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS III ( ALL ABOUT DSLR )
CAMERA MODE :
Full Auto Mode
This kind of mode can make our photo taken safely and correctly without any setting. This mode is recommended for the beginner because we can not develop our creativity and the photo result will be just in correct style and not in beautiful style.
Basic Shooting Mode
Close up, portrait, night portrait, landscape, sport and no flash mode is suitable for certain occasion based on the name of mode. Camera will adaptate its exposure based on the choice of the mode e.g if we choose portrait mode, the metering will be counted as narrower depth of field to make the foreground looks sharp and the background looks blur. Creative auto shooting mode enables us to easily change the picture’s brightness, depth of field, and picture style.
Program Auto Exposure
To obtain a good exposure of the subject, the camera sets the exposure ( shutter speed and aperture ) automatically. This is called Program AE.
Shutter Priority
With this mode we freely can set the shutter speed meanwhile the aperture setting will be changed itself by camera. Slow shutter speed below 1/30 second is usually used in order to make a panning style photo or seldom useful in night ambient place. Fast shutter speed above 1/200 is for making a stop motion image. To make sure the image will be in good focus, do not let your shutter speed lower than focal length or use a tripod to stabilize the camera. The metering will always be in the middle position to guarantee the exposure is correct but the aperture will be changed automatically.
Aperture Priority
With this mode we also have a free creativity in setting the aperture meanwhile the shutter speed will be changed itself by camera. The high aperture will make depth of field be wider and so do the contrary. High aperture is usually applied in portrait photography while low aperture is suitable for landscape photography. The metering will always be in the middle position to guarantee the exposure is correct but the shutter speed will be changed automatically.
Manual Mode
With this mode we have a full creativity in setting all of the exposure and camera component. This mode is usually applied by a professional photographer. If we deal with studio lamp equipment, this manual mode is the best choice because we can ignore the camera metering to make a correct exposure in studio or strobist occasion.
