PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS III ( ALL ABOUT DSLR )
APERTURE
Here we continue the discussion about exposure component “ aperture “. The shutter speed, aperture and ISO is useful when we want a creativity in Manual, Aperture, Time or Program camera mode. In the next we will discuss all about camera mode.
Aperture is how wide the diaphragm will be opened when shutter button pressed. So Aperture have a close relationship with depth of field ( DOF ). The bigger aperture we choose, the narrower DOF we get. In simple way, we can say that aperture is a way to create certain sharp area in the image. In Portrait shoot, we usually use big aperture to make the background looks blur and the foreground looks sharp. If the metering counted at over exposure, so just decrease the aperture to make it be a proper exposure. Aperture is usually marked by F stop value that the bigger f stop means the smaller aperture e.g f10, f8, f6, etc. By mastering aperture rule, we are able to create a photo with creamy selective focus a.k.a bokeh.
ISO
ISO is how sensitive our camera to light. If the metering counted at under exposure state, so just increase ISO value to get a better exposure. ISO is always associated with Noise production, but nowadays the camera producers provide a better noise reduction function e.g. Canon 5D Mark III that claims can make a good image without noise until above 3.200. So the bigger ISO value, the more light will be catched by camera.
The exposure Triangle is useful when we play creativity with manual mode and manual external flash or without flash in the night.
